Why are there sponsorship targets for guaranteed event places?

We have to pay for our charity places in the various events along with advertising packages to promote our places to the public. For some of the most popular events, this can be very expensive.

To ensure that we raise as much money as possible we, like other charities, have to set a minimum sponsorship target.

What happens if I cannot raise the minimum sponsorship for my chosen event?

We ask that you aim to raise a minimum fundraising target.

We know that times are hard at the moment, and you might be feeling worried about fundraising, but we will be here to support you every step of the way with your fundraising. Every pound you can raise will go towards our work to end new cases of HIV in the UK by 2030 and really will make a difference to people living and affected by HIV.

If you don’t reach your target, our team will get in touch with you to ensure the cost of the event place cost is covered as a minimum.

We find that most of our supporters smash their targets so hopefully this should not be an issue for you.

Any questions about fundraising or the event, please contact [email protected].

I don't want to commit to a minimum fundraising target - what should I do?

You'll need to get your own place in the event through the race organisers. Please visit their website to sign up. Once you have your place, we’d still love to have you on the team and support your event – any amount you could raise would be fantastic!

Is Gift Aid included in my sponsorship target?

Our policy like that of many other charities, is that Gift Aid is not included in sponsorship targets.

Can I fundraise with a friend?

Yes absolutely, if there are two or more of you doing the same event, then you can get together to raise your money. Just remember that sponsorship targets are per person.

If you are going to fundraise with a friend or as a team all we ask is that you let us know as soon as you can. Please contact [email protected].

Can I continue collecting donations after the event?

Absolutely. You are more than welcome to keep fundraising after the event. We just ask that all of your sponsorship target is raised four weeks after the event.

How do I get a t-shirt or running vest for my event?

If you’re taking part in and event with one of our charity places or have your own place in a challenge event we will be able to provide you with a t-shirt and/or running vest or cycle jersey.

Will Terrence Higgins Trust be supporting on the day of my event?

Sadly, we only have a very small fundraising team and due to the large number of challenge events throughout the year it’s not always possible for us to attend every event, although we wish we could.

We always plan to have a cheering station at the TCS London Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon, Cardiff Half Marathon and the London Landmarks Half Marathon.

I have had a change in circumstances and can no longer take part in the event I have entered. What happens now?

We understand that sometimes things don’t go to plan and circumstances change, meaning you can no longer attend the event.

If you are unable to attend the event, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing [email protected]. Where possible, we will try and defer your place to next year’s event or another similar event, but this is not guaranteed.

Just a reminder that registration fees are non-refundable.
