Making first contact with My Community

Finding the original forum was a turning point. I immediately felt welcomed and able to share my concerns, ask questions, and connect with people who truly understood how I felt. It really helped me come to terms with my diagnosis.

Why My Community matters to me

Text

The best thing about the platform is the genuine empathy and engagement in a safe, non-judgmental space. Knowing that others understand exactly how I feel, and being able to share both the highs and lows of our journeys with HIV, has been incredibly comforting.

I've met some amazing people online and had the opportunity to take part in events and other projects and meet in person.

My Community has had such a positive impact on my journey with HIV in helping me come to terms with my diagnosis. For many of us the mental aspect of an HIV diagnosis can be far harder to come to terms with than the physical. This is where being able to engage with others who understand how we feel can be just so helpful.

Looking back on the first year

I've been part of My Community since it started a year ago, and it has been incredible to see it grow and evolve in supporting people living with HIV.

The engagement and support I’ve witnessed show just how essential a platform like this is, not only for those newly diagnosed but also for people who were diagnosed years ago and are reconnecting with others.

We can share our experiences, or discuss updates in our treatment and care or chat about anything on our minds. It really stops you feeling alone. The group can also signpost to other support services. Having a space like My Community is hugely beneficial to our community, it's like a virtual support blanket, and I hope it continues for as long as support is still needed.
