This appointment ushers in Jonathan’s tenth year as Chair, making him the longest-serving board chair in the organisation’s history.

Jonathan has been a trustee since December 2016 and has brought to the role a deep well of expertise in public health at both local and national levels. His leadership journey has included serving as Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care in the London Borough of Hackney, as well as Chair of Hackney’s Health and Wellbeing Board. Over many years, he also represented the Local Government Association on a wide range of public health issues. This experience has shaped his thoughtful, strategic approach to governance.

Alongside his role with Terrence Higgins Trust, Jonathan continues to contribute to the wider health landscape. He has chaired several national public health committees and advises NHS organisations and councils on health and social care strategy. His commitment to improving health includes chairing the board of Together for Mental Wellbeing and previously being a trustee of Action on Smoking and Health.

As we celebrate Jonathan’s decade of leadership, we also look ahead with gratitude and optimism. His steady guidance and unwavering dedication remain central to our mission, our impact, and our vision for the future.

Richard Angell OBE, Chief Executive, Terrence Higgins Trust said:

'Jonathan’s service at Terrence Higgins Trust has helped us face the future, put people living with HIV at the heart of what we do and press the government and NHS to take actions necessary to end new HIV cases. We are indebted to him and are excited about what the next 12 months will bring.'
