NHS England has announced that 12 new mpox vaccine sites will opening across England

In September 2024, the UK government announced it would be rolling out mpox vaccinations through sexual health services in preparation for future outbreaks. Until this week, vaccines have only been available to those eligible in London, Manchester and Brighton. Now they will be available in every region of England.

Richard Angell OBE, Chief Executive of Terrence Higgins Trust, said:

“It’s welcome news that the government has heard our calls for mpox vaccines to be available to everyone who needs them. This is a significant victory. We have been clear that the lessons from the mpox outbreak in the summer of 2022 must be learned. Rolling mpox vaccines out across England is a sign the government is listening.

"Although there has been no transmission of clade 1 mpox in the community here and current risk is low, ensuring vaccines are available across the country will help prevent future outbreaks. Clade 2 mpox also continues to circulate in England at low levels. If you are eligible, please come forward and get protected.

“The JCVI has also recommended that the government make the gonorrhoea vaccine available through sexual health services. With rates at record highs and still soaring, it's time to roll out the gonorrhoea vaccine too."
